Line editing, copy editing, proofreading, manuscript evaluation, formatting, interior book design, transcribing, and even typing!
I've edited and proofread a variety of fiction, memoirs, a number of self-help books, and numerous blog articles. I've typed a collection of newspaper articles for a personal compilation. I've transcribed interviews for a personal history. I'm never bored because I find something of value in everything I do.
I come from a family of entrepreneurs: My maternal grandfather owned several shoe shops in London over 100 years ago. My mother ran a successful court reporting service in Miami in the '60s. In fact, she taught me to type when I was still in grade school and soon had me typing court transcripts. Before computers were a household item, I ran a typing and word processing service in a college town. Since then, I've been a paralegal in family law, a business owner/administrative manager running five roadside assistance franchises, and a criminal history investigator/assistant in a probation office.
The common thread through all of these careers was editing and writing, whether it was checking for grammar, punctuation, and spelling in academia, helping clients write narratives for motions, writing a newsletter for my company, or reviewing officer reports.
In case you can't tell from the variety of careers I've had, I'm extremely versatile. Shortly after I started JKlein-Editor.com in 2012, I tackled the mysteries of e-book development. More recently, I've taken on interior book design. I love learning new things!
