Until 2015 I worked in academia for about fifteen years as a professional historian and lecturer but found that the increasing levels of bureaucracy and funding squabbles were no longer for me. I decided to find a way to redirect my skills and passion and so found myself in the world of editing and publishing where I get to engage in two of my passions, books and guiding others to fulfill their own goals.
I still research, write and publish history for myself with my third book released in Summer 2018. I write a lot about prison and crime history - the new book is no different! As an editor I have undergone training in copy-editing and proof-reading with the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (SfEP), as well as the Publishing Training Centre (PTC).
Between my own writing portfolio, my academic work as the editor of an international journal, my editorial training and experience, I am in a profession I adore. It is the worst cliche in the world but I do love to work with people, to see their work and confidence grow, as mine has done with the help of others in the past. As a professional, I am friendly, supportive, non-judgemental, discreet, and I would like to think, generous.
I enjoy, and am most experienced in editing/proofreading;
- Crime and Historical Fiction
- General and academic History
- True Life Crime
- Young Adult
I am, of course, willing to consider other areas and if I cannot accept your project I will do my best to send you in the right direction.
